Arlington, Va. – Marymount University's
men's swimming team closed out the 2011-12 regular season
with a 104-47 victory over visiting Frostburg State in Capital
Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon. The Saints won
all but three events in the final dual meet of the
season.
Opening with the 200 medley relay, the team of Ryan Kilmon,
Joseph Gardner, Tom Baroz and Matt Ward won the event with a time
of 1:46.81.
Moving on to individual heats, senior Rett Neiman won the 200
freestyle at 2:03.14 while Dennis D'Abbraccio placed second
at 2:05.20. Also claiming both top spots in the 50 freestyle, Greg
Shumaker won with a 25.06 and Kevin Carolan-Doerflinger was second
at 29.58.
Gardner would pick up the first of his two individual wins in
the 200 IM with a time of 2:12.47.
Frostburg State won the next two events, the 100 butterfly
and the 100 freestyle, but the Saints claimed second and third in
each.
Kilmon, the Saints' other senior, also claimed an
individual victory in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:01.03.
Baroz placed second at 1:03.09.
Neiman's second individual win would come in the 500
freestyle at 5:29.59, followed again by D'Abbraccio at
5:40.89. Gardner's second victory was in the 100 breaststroke
at 1:06.06 followed by Shumaker at 1:07.49.
Closing out the meet, the Saints placed second in the 200
freestyle relay with Christian Vestermark, Neiman,
D'Abbraccio and Carolan-Doerflinger posting a
1:52.25.
Marymount returns to action at the CAC Championships hosted by
St. Mary's (Md.) on Feb. 17-19.
