Salisbury, Md. – Marymount University's
swimming teams split at Capital Athletic Conference foe Salisbury
on Saturday afternoon. The Saints women's squad won its
second-straight league showdown 121-84 over the Sea Gulls while the
men's team fell 115-88.
Opening the meet, Marymount claimed the first victory in the
400 Medley Relay. The team of Lauren Funk, Emily Wagner, Bridget
Wunderly and Jackie Finn posted a time of 4:54.60 for the
Saints.
Marymount claimed the top spots in each of the next four
events as well. Wunderly won the 800 Freestyle, Casey Thomas topped
the 200 Freestyle, Katie Moran won the 50 Freestyle and Rizzo
claimed top honors in the 200 IM. Katie Scott was second in the 800
free, Finn third in the 50 free and Funk third in the 200
IM.
Wunderly placed second in the 100 Butterfly before Thomas and
Moran went 1-2 in the 100 Freestyle. Funk and Rizzo then went on
the both finish second in the 100 Backstroke and 400 Freestyle,
respectively.
Closing out the meet, Wagner and Jessica Hester went 1-2 in
the 100 Freestyle before the team of Moran, Lea Mazzaccoli, Rizzo
and Thomas won the 400 Freestyle Relay.
On the men's side, Dennis D'Abbraccio opened
things up with the third place finish in the 800 Freestyle for the
Saints before Tom Baroz placed second in the 200 Freestyle. AJ Dunn
then claimed the first top finish for MU in the 50 Freestyle with a
time of 25.05.
The Saints went on to win the next three events as Joseph
Gardner won the 200 IM, Baroz the 100 Freestyle and Dunn the 100
Backstroke. Greg Shumaker was second overall in the 200
IM.
Gardner then finished third in the 100 Backstroke before
Baroz won the 400 Freestyle and Dunn and Gardner went 1-2 in the
100 Breaststroke.
Marymount returns to action the opening weekend of December
at the Randolph-Macon Invitational.
