LANCASTER, Pa. – For the second time this season, Marymount University women's volleyball juniors Mykael Johnson and Maggie Viniard swept the Atlantic East Conference weekly awards, being named the Player of the Week and Specialty Player of the Week, respectively, the league announced on Monday.
The duo led the Saints to a 3-0 week, with a 3-1 victory over Stevenson University and 3-0 sweeps of Wesley College and Cabrini University. With the wins over the Wolverines and Cavaliers, the team secured its undefeated record in league play this season to hold the No. 1 spot in the standings.
This marks the fifth Player of the Week selection for Johnson, who set a career high with 27 kills against Stevenson. She added 15 digs in the match for a double-double.
Johnson added a second double-double on the week with 13 kills and 10 digs against Cabrini, bring her season total to nine double-doubles.
She tallied 13 kills against Wesley, as well.
On the week, she totaled five service aces, three blocks, and 60 points.
Viniard also registered two double-doubles on the week, earning her second Specialty Player of the Week award. She tallied 40 assists and 11 digs against the Wolverines, before adding 39 assists and 11 digs against the Cavaliers.
In the win over the Mustangs, she dished out 41 assists, while adding seven digs and four service aces.
The Saints return to the court on Saturday, November 2, closing out their regular season in a tri-match with Eastern Mennonite University and Bridgewater (Va.) College. Marymount will take on Eastern Mennonite, beginning at 12 p.m., to start its day.
