ARLINGTON, Va. - The Marymount University women's volleyball team opened up its Marymount Invitational with a three-set sweep of DeSales University on Friday night, 3-0 (28-26, 25-10, 25-20).
Led by a career-high night by sophomore Caylee Shelton, the Saints hit .273 as a team with a total of 46 kills for the three sets. Shelton finished with 12 kills on a .462 hitting percentage, while juniors Mykael Johnson and Myah Cordrey added 11 each.
The first set needed extra points, as Marymount used a kill by Shelton and a block by junior Michaella Ulses to seal up a 28-26 victory in the first game.
The second game was all Saints, led by 14 kills and a team .414 hitting percentage as Marymount rolled to 25-10 win to take a heavy two-game advantage.
The momentum guided MU to a 25-20 third-set win, as the Saints sealed up a three-set victory.
Junior Maggie Viniard controlled the offense with a match-high 32 assists, while Ulses had six blocks on the defensive side. Viniard made it a double-double with 14 digs to lead the Saints.
The Saints wrapup the Marymount Invitational on Saturday, October 5 with two matches. They lead off with Virginia Wesleyan University at 10 a.m., and Penn State University-Behrend at 4 p.m.
