GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – The Marymount University women's volleyball team grabbed its second 3-0 sweep in as many days, taking down Gwynedd Mercy University in Atlantic East Conference action on Wednesday night.
Cordrey tallied three more kills, as Marymount pushed its advantage to 10 points, 16-6.
Johnson and junior Alexa Marcum, each, added two kills in the final points, as the Saints took the 25-9 victory.
The Griffins responded with a 10-4 run to get back to within two, 14-12, but senior Miranda Cooksey blocked the next Gwynedd Mercy attack to start a 3-0 spurt to regain a five-point lead.
Gwynedd Mercy cut the lead back to 18-16, but the Saints closed the match with seven-consecutive points. Shelton led the run with three service aces, before Cordrey closed the set with a kill, 25-16.
Senior Theresa Buscemi tallied two aces to start the final frame, as the Saints jumped out to a 10-3 lead. Johnson added two kills in the opening run, as she put down a team-high 11 in the match.
Two more kills from Shelton helped grab a double-digit edge, 15-5, as the Saints commanded the set.
Johnson put down two more kills in the set, leading Marymount to the victory, 25-12, to take the match.
Munsterman added eight kills in the contest, while Shelton finished with seven. Buscemi paced the defense with 16 digs.
Junior Maggie Viniard finished the match with 36 assists.
The Saints will return to action on Friday, October 4 to open the Marymount Invitational tournament in the Converse Family Fieldhouse; the match is set for 6 p.m.
