RICHMOND, Va. - The Marymount University women's swimming team rounded out the two-day Yellow Jacket Invitational on Sunday, taking seventh place out of 12 teams with 367 points.
Headlining the weekend was senior Hayley Elizondo, taking two more top individual victories while taking third place in another. On Saturday, she collected a first-place finish in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:37.77, almost eight seconds faster than the second-place finisher.
She followed it up with a close victory in the 100-yard breaststroke, touching the wall at 1:05.82, less than a second in front of a Lynchburg competitor.
On Sunday, she had one individual race in the 200-yard breaststroke, clocking a time of 2:27.84 for third place, just under two seconds behind the top finisher from Randolph-Macon.
The Saints had a handful of top-20 finishes throughout the 36-event weekend. Senior Isabel Grimm and freshman Delaney Carey each recorded two top-20 finishes, as Grimm took 16th in the 100 backstroke (1:04.19) and 14th in the 200 backstroke (2:20.45) and Carey took 11th in the 100 butterfly (1:02.53) and 17th in the 100 freestyle (57.05).
Freshmen Madison Grubb and Ellen Bryce each had one, with Grubb taking 17th in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:12.80 and Bryce in the 1,650 freestyle with a 19th-place finish for a time of 20:54.54.
The Saints will take close to a month off over the holidays and return to competition in 2020 with a non-conference meet at Division I Howard University on January 18. First event is slated for 2 p.m.
