LANCASTER, Pa. – Marymount University women's swimming senior Hayley Elizondo was named the Atlantic East Conference Swimmer of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday.
Elizondo, the 2018-19 Atlantic East Swimmer of the Year, picked up right where she left off, winning all four individual events in Marymount's first-two meets this season.
In the team's season-opener at Salisbury University, she placed first in both of her individual events. In the 200-meter individual medley, she clocked a time of 2:30.06 for nine points, as she just missed a pool record that was set in 2001 by less than a second.
She added to her day, racing to a time of 1:15.93 in the 100-meter breaststroke to shatter a Salisbury pool record set in 2010.
In a double-dual meet with Gallaudet University and Goucher College, she took first in two more races, placing first in the 50-yard freestyle (26.07) and the 100-yard IM (1:03.67).
The award marks the fourth Swimmer of the Week selection of Elizondo's career, as she was a three-time winner last season.
Elizondo and the Saints will return to action on Saturday, October 26 against St. Mary's College of Maryland; the meet is set for 1 p.m.
