GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Marymount University women's soccer team held strong through the first half against Greensboro College on Saturday afternoon in a non-conference matchup, but four second-half goals solidified a 5-0 decision in favor of the Pride.
Greensboro had the first opportunities of the day, as an initial shot in the 11th minute was blocked by the Marymount defense. However, the blocked shot went to the left side of the 18-yard box to find the foot of Haley Russell for the finish and the early 1-0 lead for the Pride.
The defense for the Saints locked in after that, as sophomore goalkeeper Maia Pappadakis, who finished the day with five save, made her first just two minutes after the goal and another late in the half to take MU into the break trailing, 1-0.
Pappadakis started off the second half with another save, but the Pride added their second in the 47th minute to spur a four-goal half.
The Saints had two shots in the half, one of which went on target by junior Sita Nair.
Marymount will continue on the road on Wednesday, September 18 at Mary Baldwin. First touch is set for 2 p.m.
