LANCASTER, Pa. – The Marymount University women's basketball team swept the Atlantic East Conference awards this week, as sophomore Katie McShea was named the Player of the Week and freshman Symantha Shackelford was named the Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
The Saints posted a 2-1 record last week, picking up wins over Hood College, 71-55, on Monday and Gallaudet University, 77-39, on Wednesday.
McShea recorded double-doubles in all three games, while scoring at-least 20 points in each game, as well. She tallied 20 points and 13 rebounds against the Cardinals and 21 points and 11 rebounds against the Bison. She added three steals against Gallaudet.
Against the University of Mary Washington, she finished with 20 points and 14 rebounds.
McShea added one block in each game last week, while finishing with seven total assists between the three contest.
McShea has now been named the conference Player of the Week for the third-straight week, bring her career total to five.
Shackelford finished the week with 10 steals, including a career-high six against Gallaudet, to lead the team defensively. She added three against Mary Washington.
She also pulled down four defensive rebounds on the week, while averaging 8.7 points per game.
The award marks the first-career Atlantic East weekly award for Shackelford.
The Saints will compete in the Daytona Beach Shootout, next, taking on Centre College on Thursday, December 19 in Daytona Beach, Fla. The opening tip is set for 6 p.m.
