LANCASTER, Pa. - The Atlantic East Conference announced its weekly awards a few days early due to the holiday season, and freshman Katie McShea earned an early Christmas gift after being named Women's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week for the first time in her collegiate career.
McShea has pieced together a stellar start to her career with the Saints, notching her fourth double-double of the season in Marymount's lone game of the week on Monday at Elizabethtown. She led the Saints on both ends of the court, registering a game-high 22 points to go along with a game- and career-high 17 rebounds, a game- and career-high three blocks, three steals, and an assist.
Her strength inside the paint had her pull in a game-high six offensive boards and a game-high 11 defensive rebounds.
Through 12 games, she has scored 172 points at 14.3 per game while totaling 106 rebounds at 8.8 per game. She sits fifth in the conference in scoring, third in rebounds, and second in field-goal percentage (.487).
McShea and the Saints remain away from competition until after Christmas when they travel to Kean University on Monday, December 30 for a non-conference tilt. Start time is set for 2 p.m.
