Women's Basketball Opens Season As No. 16 In Preseason Ranking

ARLINGTON, Va. – The Marymount University women's basketball team is fresh off a Capital Athletic Conference Championship, the 13th league title for the team in program history. Now in the new Atlantic East Conference, the Saints find themselves as the lone team out of the league to appear in the Preseason Top 25, the organization announced on Monday.

Marymount, finishing 2017-18 with a 25-4 record and 19th in the poll, bumped up three spots in the preseason poll to sit 16th in the country with 164 points.

This is the 68th time the Saints have been ranked in the poll. Dating back to the first poll in 1999-2000 season, Marymount has been ranked at least once in all but seven years, reaching the highest ranking of No. 6.

Coming in at No. 1 in the poll is reigning National Championship Amherst with 617 points and 21 first-place votes. With no other team in the Atlantic East in the poll, there is only one team from the Saints' former home in the CAC, as Christopher Newport earned a spot at No. 20.

Marymount is slated to open its season against two Top-25 squads against No. 23 Emory & Henry and No. 25 Randolph-Macon. The Saints will take square off with both of the teams on their home court, hosting the Wasps in the season opener on Friday, November 9, and follow up with the Yellow Jackets on Monday, November 12.
