Marymount drops non-conference matchup, 2-0

ARLINGTON, Va. – The Marymount University men's soccer team hosted the McDaniel College Green Terror Saturday afternoon, at Long Bridge Park, dropping a close 2-0 decision.

In the first ten minutes of play, the Green Terror found three golden opportunities on goal, but all three were denied by freshman goalkeeper Eduardo Cardonne. Cardonne recorded four saves in the half including a full-body extension to keep the game tied at zero.

The Saints took control in the middle of the first half as junior Ridwaan Robinson received a through ball to only be denied his one-on-one opportunity, and his follow-up shot off the rebound was blocked by a Green Terror defender in the 22nd minute.

On the counter attack, the Green Terror got a cross into the box in the 26th minute, to take a 1-0 lead.

Marymount ended the first half strong defensively holding the Green Terror to only four more shots, all of which were blocked or saved.

The start of the second half stayed in McDaniel's favor. Although being out-shot, 13-9, in the second half, the Green Terror found the back of the net once again in the 62nd minute to put the game away.

Marymount looked to cut the deficit to one in the 72nd minute as freshman Justin Meza beat his defender one-on-one down the left sideline but could not capitalize on the opportunity.

Cardonne made his second start in goal, making a total of seven saves on the day.

The men's soccer team looks to get back on track Tuesday, September 10 as it hosts the Bison of Gallaudet University; opening touch is set for 7 p.m.
