ARLINGTON, Va. – The Marymount University men's lacrosse team hosted St. Mary's College of Maryland Wednesday afternoon, falling in a 12-7 decision.
The opening quarter was dominated by the Saints' offense, outshooting the Seahawks 10-5.
Freshman Troy Tangolics recorded his fourth goal of the season as he scored the third goal of the game, giving the Saints a one-goal advantage midway through the first.
To open the second quarter, the Seahawks found the back of the net twice to tie the game at 3-3. But with 29 seconds left, Akers found his second goal of the day to take the lead going into the break.
After the halftime break, Mackiewicz struck the back of the net to increase the Saints' lead to two, but a dominating second half performance from the Seahawks lead to four unanswered goals and a two goal lead headed into the final quarter.
The Seahawks' added five more goals in the final quarter to take the game.
At the face off "X" senior Christian Lutz was perfect the first half, winning all nine faceoffs. He ended the day going 16-23 (69%). Lutz also lead the team in ground balls with eight.
Senior net minder Grey Clarkson was between the pipes for the entirety of the game. Clarkson added six saves to his season, two of which came from 1-on-1 opportunities from the Seahawks.
Catch the Marymount men's lacrosse team back in action this Saturday, March 23 as they take on Grove City College in their annual Wade's Army Game. The opening faceoff is set for 3 p.m.
