Burns Scores Three, Saints Post Highest Goal Total Against Salisbury Since 2008

ARLINGTON, Va. - Marymount men's lacrosse sophomore Michael Burns scored three goals while junior Patrick Ruleman totaled 14 saves as the Saints dropped a 22-8 decision to No. 7 Salisbuy Wednesday at Long Bridge Park.

Marymount (2-13, 0-6 CAC) scored its most goals in the series since Mar. 12, 2008 when it also had eight in a 24-8 loss at home.

The Saints trailed by just two after the first quarter following goals by Burns and senior Nathan Beard. Ruleman totaled four of his saves in the first 15 minutes while facing 16 shots.

However, the Sea Gulls (12-3, 5-1 CAC) outscored Marymount 15-3 over the next two quarters, including 8-1 in the second. They scored the first seven goals of the second before junior Matthew Ebert ended the 9-0 run with his 11th goal of the season off an assist from junior Sean Friedman with 5:30 remaining in the first half.

Burns scored both of Marymount's third-quarter tallies, but Salisbury outscored the Saints 7-2 to take a 19-5 lead after three.

Beard added his second goal of the game in the fourth before the Sea Gulls took their largest lead of the game at 22-6. The Saints netted the game's final two tallies in the final four minutes, including the first goal of the season for sophomore Michael Posey, a strike to the top right corner with 21 seconds remaining off Friedman's second assist of the contest.

Posey became the 17th different player to score a goal for Marymount this season.

Ruleman totaled at least 10 saves for the third consecutive game and fifth this season. He was one shy of his season high set at Shenandoah on March 7.

Junior Grey Clarkson played the 15 minutes and had three saves on six shots faced.

The Saints host Mary Washington on Saturday for senior day with opening face-off set for 1:00 p.m.
