Saints fall to Bobcats in CAC tilt

Box Score

ARLINGTON, Va. – The Marymount (Va.) University women's soccer team dropped a 6-0 decision to a tough offensive-oriented Frostburg State University team on Wednesday night in a Capital Athletic Conference matchup at Long Bridge Park.

Frostburg was on the attack early and often, finding the back of the net by the 11th minute. Freshman Carolina Saavedra locked down the net after the first goal, turning away the next four attempts on target.

Although the Bobcats tacked on two more before the end of the half, Saavedra continued to impress in just her second collegiate start, registering a career-high seven saves. The Saints' defense wouldn't back down to the high-powered offense, not allowing Frostburg to put more than 10 of its 26 shots in the first half on target. Of the 16 shots that weren't on target, four were blocked by the backline.

Junior Joanna Chenaille tended the net for the final 45 minutes of the match, turning away three attempts.  Chenaille followed up a save at the 49:40 minute mark with another save at the 52:20 minute mark. Unfortunately, the Bobcats were relentless on the offensive end, scoring three more goals to seal up the victory.

The women will hit the road for the next two matches, traveling down 95 to Fredericksburg, Virginia for a conference tilt against the University of Mary Washington on Saturday, October 17. First touch is set for 1 p.m.
