Gallant Leads Saints in Season Finale at NCAA South/Southeast Regional

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Marymount women's cross country junior Denise Gallant posted the third-fastest 6k time of her career in 24:29.0 to finish 109th and lead the Saints to a 28th-place finish out of 34 teams at the 2017 NCAA Division III South/Southeast Region Championships.

Marymount was one of four teams from the CAC competing in the championship, joining Christopher Newport, who finished eighth, Mary Washington, who finished 10th, and Southern Virginia, who was 17th.

Senior Brooke Saunders came in 124th in the final race of her collegiate career, finishing with a season-best time of 24:48.8 which was the second-fastest of her career behind her mark of 24:25.3 set at the Don Cathcart Invitational in 2016.

Sophomore Sophia Murray finished 164th with a time of 25:52.0 while sophomore Kaitlyn Reed posted the second-best 6k time of her career in 26:03.7 to finish 171st. Reed's personal record of 25:55.33 also came at the Don Cathcart Invitational in 2016.

Competing in her fifth consecutive race, senior Simone Walker finished in 31:35.2 while freshman Samantha Gimon posted a personal record in her fourth career race, finishing in 31:56.7.
