YORK, Pa. - Marymount women's cross country junior Denise Gallant was selected as the Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week on Monday. She is the first Saint to earn weekly honors from the CAC since Gina Reyes on Sept. 29, 2015.
Marymount has now had three players earn conference weekly honors in the last three and six in the last five.
In earning her first career honor, Gallant was the top finisher for the Saints or the second-straight week and the seventh overall after finishing sixth at the Shannon Henretty Invitational hosted by Stevenson University on Friday. She led Marymount to a fourth-place team finish.
For Gallant, it was her second top-10 finish in as many races this season and third in her last seven. She completed the 6k course in a time of 25:20.50 and was also the top finisher among the two schools from the CAC as Mary Washington's top finisher, Ashley Applegate, finished 12th with a time of 25:50.69.
The Saints will have two weeks to prepare for their next race on Saturday, September 23 at the Hornet Harrier Invitational and Commonwealth Challenge, a 5k race hosted by Shenandoah University at Kernstown Battlefield in Winchester, Virginia. Start time is at 10:00 a.m.
