GRAND LAKE, Colo. – The academic awards for sports continue to be announced throughout the summer, as the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association announced it 2017 Zag Sports Academic Honor Squads and Honor Roll on Wednesday afternoon.
The Marymount (Va.) University women's lacrosse team made another appearance as an Academic Honor Squad, being a part of the 308 schools across Division I, II, III, and NAIA to earn the honor. To qualify for this award, the women's lacrosse team must have posted a 3.0 or higher team grade-point average (GPA) for the 2016-17 academic year. The Saints, as a team, posted a 3.1 GPA, topping last year's GPA of 3.06 as a squad.
The Academic Honor Roll also saw two Saints make their way onto the Academic Honor Roll. Senior Natalie Tinkham earned the award for the second-straight year, graduating with a 3.75 GPA in International Business and Spanish, while junior Kellen Cannon grabbed a spot for the first time with a cumulative GPA of 3.97 in Physical Therapy. Cannon was also named to CoSIDA Academic All-District this past year.
The two join 532 other student athletes from 159 different institutions. To be eligible for the Academic Honor Roll, student athletes must be a junior, senior, or graduate student and have earned a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher.
