ARLINGTON, Va. – The Marymount (Va.) University baseball team fell behind early to No. 22 Salisbury University on Wednesday afternoon, eventually dropping a 15-4 decision at Bishop O'Connell High School.
Junior Collin Bazemore took the start on the mound for the Saints, striking out and grounding out the first two batters in the Sea Gull lineup. However, Salisbury's bats would heat up, taking an early 3-0 lead through the first two innings.
In the third and fourth, Bazemore commanded the hill, not allowing SU to bring across another run. But it was the same on the other end of the frame, as Salisbury kept the Saints scoreless until the seventh inning while building up its advantage to 12-0.
In the bottom of the seventh, senior Marlon Mitchell stepped in as a pinch hitter, hitting a harder grounder to the third baseman for an infield single and a RBI, as sophomore Austin Sizemore sprinted home.
In the bottom of the eighth, MU added its last two runs when Sizemore sent a deep shot over the left field fence for his first collegiate home run, scoring sophomore Cal Berman in the process.
The Saints will look to bounce back this weekend with four games on the road, starting out with a league doubleheader at Southern Virginia University on Saturday, April 8. First pitch is slated for 12 p.m.
